In this opening ceremony, the Hong Kong writer Cheung Yuen Man will read excerpts from her essay collection The Uneven Treetops, the featured book of One City One Book Hong Kong 2025/26, followed by discussions with guest speakers and the readers.
Speaker’s bio
Cheung Yuen-Man is a Hong Kong writer and language tutor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She is the author of the essay collections The Uneven Treetops (2022) and You Are Here – Stories of Campus Cats (2020); and the novel collections Farewell & together(2025), Those were the Cats (2019), Dust in the Wind (2017) and Sweet Honey (2004). Those were the Catsand Dust in the Wind won the Recommendation Award of the Chinese Literature Biennial Award. She was also awarded the Jury Prize of the Times Literary Awards (2013), the First Prize of the Joint Literary New Talent Award (2012), and the Merit Award of the Hong Kong Literary Awards for Fiction (2010).

About One City One Book Hong Kong:
One City One Book Hong Kong is a community reading programme initiated by The Education University of Hong Kong. Each year, we encourage as many people as possible to read and discuss a single book. Speakers’ Bio:

Jeffrey CLAPP is Associate Professor of Department of Literature and Cultural Studies, The Education University of Hong Kong. He focuses on digital humanities, media studies, and contemporary literature in English. His previous writing has appeared or will appear in College Literature, Contemporary Literature, Critique, Life Writing, Mosaic, Partial Answers, Post45, Textual Practice, Texas Studies in Literature and Language, and elsewhere. For several years, he explored the capacities and affordances of social annotation technologies for teaching literature. And he is a co-founder of the large-scale community reading project One City One Book Hong Kong.
SONG Ge (宋歌) is Assistant Professor in Linguistics and Modern Languages at The Education University of Hong Kong. His interests include sociolinguistics, translation studies, and AI in language and media. Recent work appears inInternational Journal of Multilingualism, Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development, Language and Intercultural Communication, and China Perspectives. He is first‑named editor of the Multilingual Education Yearbook 2025, and author of the book Diversity and Hybridity: A Stroll through Hong Kong Culture (多元與混合:香港文化漫步).
Robert TSATURYAN is a lecturer at the Academy of Language and Culture, Department of Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Studies, Hong Kong Baptist University. He has published essays and translations in English and Chinese inChinese Literature Today, Fleurs des Lettres, Voice & Verse and in edited volumes such as Voiced and Voiceless in Asia(2023), Ethics in the Zhuangzi: Dialogues on the State of the Field (2024), among others. He has also translated Lu Xun into Armenian.

活動簡介
香港教育大學「我城我書2025/26」社區閱讀計劃的年度選書為香港作家張婉雯的散文集《參差杪》。其中,〈貓族的瑪雅文明〉一文邀請讀者反思幫助街貓的方式及倫理意義。是次活動,我們邀請了本地繪本創作者貓珊,從動物救助的親身經歷出發,帶領參加者從文學中的動物故事走進繪本中的動物故事。
*故事工作坊結束後,參加者可現場報名我們的加料活動(名額有限)。貓珊將帶領部分參加者步行至動物慈善組織LAP的貓中心,沿途觀看並思考鋪頭貓的生活環境。
講者簡介
貓珊 Maoshan Connie
大學時期主修建築,其後修讀兒童文學。一直希望能以插畫,把有意思的信息跟世界分享,曾經創作生死教育、樹木保育、特殊需要人士等議題的繪本及藝術作品,並一直於動物慈善機構LAP當暫託家庭及教育工作統籌的義工。曾出版繪本書籍包括:《最後的告別》、《獅子山下的黃大獅》、《我們都值得被愛》、《通往大嶼山的慢船上》及《大耳嘴角》等。
