Over 5 years from preparation to practice, 12 volumes of “The Compendium of Hong Kong Literature – 1919 to 1949”(Compendium) were published, in which the plan has long been incubating for three decades, come to fruition for construct the Hong Kong literary history from a local perspective.

Compiling “Compendium” is an important initiative to rebuild the memory of Hong Kong culture, and to reflect the pluralism of Hong Kong Literature historic scene. The research and discover of Hong Kong Literature by each editor is to compete with the power of “deliberate forgetfulness”, in order to arouse the public care for Hong Kong Literature.

In this talk, Professor Leonard Chan, chief editor of “Compendium”, will share the difficulties and challenges of compiling “Compendium”.
